About Us
LeoLabs is the world’s leading commercial provider of low Earth orbit (LEO) mapping and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) services. LeoLabs was founded in 2016 as a venture-funded spinout of Silicon Valley research pioneer, SRI International, by scientists and space industry veterans committed to securing Low Earth Orbit (LEO). LeoLabs is built on 30+ years of R&D in radar systems and satellite tracking algorithms. The team is rapidly expanding its global radar network and data services platform to help satellite operators deploy their services safely and to empower governmental space agencies with detailed visibility into the LEO ecosystem. As commercial space ventures and newly-formed space agencies from every corner of the globe compete for their place in the second space race, LeoLabs is here to address a new generation of risks and opportunities to preserve LEO for future generations.

As traffic grows in Low Earth Orbit, so do threats. To identify these threats, we track the activities and understand the behavior of objects.. 24/7. Launches can carry multiple payloads. We monitor and characterize all deployments after launch, prioritizing locating and determining high-interest objects. Using machine learning, we determine if unknown objects are payloads, rocket bodies or debris. We identify potential threads from new, high interest payloads by comparing their behavior to known objects.
By observing maneuvers to maintain orbit, we’ve identified many “unknown” objects as potential payloads from PRC launches. Our watch doesn’t stop. We continuously identify, monitor, and characterize suspected on-orbit deployments and maneuvers. By observing patterns of life, we can identify potentially threatening maneuvers and deliver timely alerts. We also watch for spawning events. As always, we’ll continue to monitor unusual activity.
We continuously monitor high-value and high-interest objects, providing alerts for unexpected threat behavior. By tracking the behavior of high-interest objects over time and in specific orbital neighborhoods, we observe testing, demonstrations, maneuvers, and more. Our global operations provide the most frequent and high-fidelity updates for these events. This is critical for catching adversarial maneuvers in historical “blind spots."
