Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has a contingent opening for an experienced
Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer specializing in
metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our
Vehicle Engineering organization. The position is located in
Melbourne, Florida and may be filled at the
Principal (T03) or Senior Principal (T04) level.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:- Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production metallics, sealants & coatings issues
- Generates test plans & reports
- Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
- Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes OR metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes
- Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications
- Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
- Perform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied
- May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
- May travel to subcontractor locations
This requisition may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level based on qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications:- Principal Structural Engineer (level 3) requires a minimum of a BS in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures; OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures.
- Sr Principal Structural Engineer (level 4) requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures; OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures.
- Experience with metal or composite fabrication and design
- Experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials
- Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

- Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar
