Designers at Valley IT develop a deep understanding of our customers' challenges, solving some of the world’s most complex and impactful problems. Our mission is to create scalable and generalizable solutions that elegantly navigate these intricate problem spaces.
Core Responsibilities
Interaction and Visual Design:
As a product designer, you’ll contribute at every stage of the design process. From defining early product concepts to refining high-level workflows and micro-interactions, you’ll ensure a crisp and effective visual design. Proficiency in design and prototyping tools like Figma is expected.
User Research:
Our approach values flexibility in research processes to achieve optimal outcomes. You'll engage in informal user research, frequently visiting customer offices to interview and learn from end-users. By pairing qualitative methods—such as usability tests and contextual inquiries—with quantitative data, like product and usage metrics, you’ll uncover key insights.
Collaboration and Communication:
You’ll work closely with product managers and engineers to bring your design ideas to life. Treating engineers and PMs as equal collaborators, you’ll deliver and communicate designs through methods such as mockups, prototypes, and design specs.
Technical Awareness:
Understanding how software interfaces are built is crucial. While expertise isn’t required, familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript will enable you to collaborate effectively with engineers and grasp the possibilities of frontend technologies.
At Valley IT, designers enjoy autonomy in their work and often specialize deeply in one area. You might be the type of designer who ships code weekly or one who dives deep into user research and shares findings with the team.
What We Value
An Iterative Design Process:
You validate ideas early by gathering feedback from stakeholders and users. Moving quickly, you incorporate feedback, prioritize collaboration, and adapt intentionally. You’re skilled at giving and receiving critiques constructively.
Collaboration and Communication:
Strong relationships with engineers, PMs, and stakeholders are essential. You communicate design rationale effectively and adapt your methods—whether presenting mockups, creating prototypes, or drafting detailed design specifications.
Thoughtful, Intentional Work:
You know that form and function are intertwined. Your decisions consider engineering, user experience, and business constraints, ensuring a cohesive solution.
Dedication to the User:
You’ll design software that empowers users across diverse domains, from manufacturing workers to pharmaceutical researchers. Understanding and advocating for their needs will drive your design process.
Excitement for Complex Problems:
You thrive on tackling hard, technical challenges. Diving into deep subject matter expertise, you design interfaces that balance simplicity, approachability, and power.
