OverviewAs a Senior Software Engineer supporting mission-essential national security initiatives, you will design, develop, integrate, and maintain secure, high-performance software solutions that enable critical intelligence, defense, and operational missions. Working alongside engineers, analysts, and mission stakeholders, you will build scalable applications and services that directly support the protection of U.S. national security interests.
This position requires a strong foundation in modern software engineering practices, the ability to work in highly collaborative Agile environments, and a commitment to developing resilient, secure, and reliable solutions for complex operational challenges. Successful candidates are passionate about solving difficult technical problems while delivering capabilities that have real-world mission impact. This position will support a mission-focused customer during the full life-cycle development of a Radio Frequency Processing System.
This role is based in Hanover, Maryland.

What will you do?- Analyze user, system, and mission requirements to derive software design, interface, and performance requirements.
- Design, develop, modify, test, and maintain complex software applications and mission systems.
- Debug existing software and correct defects using programming languages such as Java, Python, Rust, and C .
- Develop and maintain scalable, highly available mission systems using modern software architecture and system design principles.
- Perform full-stack software development across front-end, back-end, and system integration components.
- Design and develop intuitive user interfaces and analyst-facing applications using modern UI/UX principles.
- Create, configure, deploy, and maintain Docker containers, Kubernetes pods, clusters, and containerized applications.
- Develop software supporting Radio Frequency processing and Digital Signal Processing capabilities.
- Generate automation scripts to improve development workflows, system deployment, testing, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and execute test procedures for individual software components and integrated systems.
- Use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict, measure, and evaluate software and system performance.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and define system interfaces, performance expectations, capabilities, and project limitations.
- Troubleshoot software, hardware, integration, and system performance issues in complex technical environments.
- Provide recommendations for improving software documentation, development processes, coding standards, testing practices, and engineering procedures.
- Create and maintain technical documentation throughout the software development life cycle.
- Participate in software integration, verification, validation, deployment, and sustainment activities.
Do you have what it takes? VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $200K-$245K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
