At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling - to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

What You Will Do

Join the Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization and contribute mechanical engineering expertise to mission-critical defense systems across radar, missile, and command-and-control platforms. In this role, you will participate across the entire product lifecycle-from initial concept design and structural/thermal analysis to rapid prototyping, design verification testing, and factory support. Working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment alongside systems, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, you will solve complex technical challenges to deliver robust, high-reliability mechanical solutions. Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer-duration travel assignments are available but optional.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, model, and document mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and major end items in accordance with rigorous defense system requirements.
  • Generate and maintain parametric 3D CAD models, complex assembly hierarchies, and detailed 2D engineering drawings.
  • Validate design fit, form, and functionality through rapid prototyping, physical testing, and engineering simulations.
  • Support factory operations, integration facilities, and external suppliers with product manufacturing, assembly, and integration.
  • Participate actively in design peer reviews, resolve technical action items, and conduct trade studies to inform engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to analyze and resolve mechanical hardware issues.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline. Degree must be obtained by start date.
  • Experience utilizing parametric 3D CAD software (such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or Siemens NX) to generate 3D solid models, mechanical assemblies, and detailed 2D engineering drawings.
  • Experience in mechanical design applied through coursework, academic research, engineering competition teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja, Robotics), or hands-on projects.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Knowledge or application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles per ASME/ANSI Y14.5.
  • Hands-on experience in rapid prototyping and mechanical fabrication, including additive manufacturing (3D printing via FDM, SLA, or SLS) or machine shop equipment (mills, lathes, drill presses, or CNC equipment).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving aptitude applied to structural, thermal, or multi-disciplinary hardware challenges.

What We Offer:

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
