Senior Software Engineer - DoD/Air Force Programs (SAP)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to support advanced Air Force and DoD acquisition programs within a Special Access Program (SAP) environment. This role requires deep technical expertise in software development, system integration, configuration management, and evaluation of contractor-delivered software for aircraft, avionics, and related support systems. The successful candidate will operate with significant autonomy while collaborating with military, civilian, and contractor personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess DoD contractor software deliveries for aircraft systems and test equipment
- Audit contractors for software configuration management and quality accreditation
- Track and control Computer Program Identification Numbers (CPINs)
- Support acquisition, development, and sustainment of weapon system software
- Develop and review architecture, interoperability requirements, and system design baselines
- Translate user requirements into system/software requirements
- Provide system/subsystem integration support throughout the lifecycle
- Evaluate system, subsystem, and component test plans; support test execution
- Apply in depth knowledge of software design, integration, configuration, and certification
- Verify contractor compliance with ISO9000/9002, CMMI, and Air Force standards
- Support engineering process development and process improvement initiatives
- Utilize and interpret Air Force Technical Orders
- Prepare and deliver clear PowerPoint briefings to diverse technical audiences
- Create concise technical documents and research papers in Microsoft Word
- Read and analyze schedules in Microsoft Project and datasets in Microsoft Excel
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Special Access Program (SAP) environment within the last 8 years
- Master’s degree (MS/MA) in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
- OR: Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of engineering experience with the DoD, government agencies, or DoD contractors
- At least 10 years of senior level experience in software development, sustainment, and systems engineering
- Ability to clearly brief small groups of technical and non technical stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)
Security Clearance
Active Top Secret clearance (current within 5 years), with eligibility for SCI and SAP
