Job Summary:
This position is full time for the National Training Center Training Support Contract (NTCTSC) at the National Training Center (NTC). NTCTSC brings to bear the full capabilities of many of the world’s best systems integration and engineering companies in the technical integration of live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training support.
The NTCTSC is located at Fort Irwin, CA in the Mojave Desert approximately forty miles northeast of Barstow, CA. NTCTSC operations support the NTC mission to provide realistic joint and combined arms training and is focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st Century Battlefield.
V2X has a requirement for a Mechanic, Heavy Equipment with experience in heavy equipment repair. The Mechanic, Heavy Equipment will maintain the maintenance of all Government Furnished and Contractor Acquired heavy equipment for V2x and its subcontractors for the Training Support Contract at Fort Irwin. A requirement for work with MAAR Vans and MVUs in support of AAR.
Standard work week will be five (5) day per week for up to eight (8) hours per day while at CONUS work sites(s) and a flexible schedule should OCONUS travel be required. There may be instances of extended hours should need arise. Work may include nights, holidays and weekends on short notice.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
- Identifying mechanical issues, determining the extent of repairs needed, and executing repairs onvarious heavy equipment like excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, and more.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges

- Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Welds broken parts and structural members.
- May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
- Performs movement set up and integration of MAAR and MVU equipment in support AAR and Training Events for the National Training Center.
- Performs preventative maintenance checks and services (PMCS) as required by with military and civilian technical manuals.
- Performs recovery operations of inoperative equipment. Provides input to vehicle status reports.
- Orders parts required for organizational operations.
- Analyzes malfunctions, operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and inspectionsto prevent breakdowns.
- Working on various systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and airbrake systems.
- Disassembling, repairing, and reassembling major components like engines, transmissions, andhydraulic systems using hoists and hand tools.
- Advising on part selection and ordering necessary parts for repairs.
- Maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on equipment
- Performing minor welding and brazing work, as well as fabricating or installing custom equipment.
- Ensuring all repairs are done to safety standards and that equipment is operated safely
- Instructing operators on equipment operation and servicing
- May be required to travel to worksites to repair large equipment.•Following blueprints and manuals: Reading and understanding operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment repair and shop safety
- Candidate MUST be able to provide complete maintenance and trouble shooting of heavy equipment
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Proficient in computer skills needed to complete repairs and diagnostics on heavy equipment
- Candidate must possess excellent personal communications and office skills
- Applicant may be required to travel and will be required to work in compliance with OSHA and V2X safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks assigned by leadership in a manner that enhances customer satisfaction
- Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a US Secret Security Clearance
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems
- Ability to identify and resolve complex issues related to heavy equipment
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various environments
- Ability to communicate effectively with operators and other mechanics
- Applicant must demonstrate a solid command (both and oral) of English language and comprehend technical documentation, schematics, and diagrams.
- Must be a U. S. citizen.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of 50lbs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Desired Skills:
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications can demonstrate competency in specific areas of heavy equipment repair preferred
- CDL preferred
- Existing US SECRET Security Clearance
- Experience with MAXIMO work orders
Education & Experience:
- Highschool diploma/ GED
- 4 years direct experience with Heavy Equipment repair
Certifications:
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and maintain Post driving privileges.
- Obtain military licenses and Night Vision certification if required.
