You will serve as a WELDER in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

['You will inspect work to incur conformance to nuclear reactor plant specification prior to submitting that work for formal inspection.', 'You will produce a very high quality weld on a continuing basis which must pass very high x-ray standards and specifications.', 'You will direct helpers, apprentices, and fire watchers.', 'You will observe safety rules and regulations of the activity.', 'You will perform welding operations primarily on nuclear and non-nuclear piping and pressure vessels.']

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Coordinating movement of equipment and accomplishing the set up and adjustment of welding related machines and equipment to obtain the necessary varying settings of parity, amperage, voltage, gas, or flux flow. *Accomplishing assignments in accordance with approved welding procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, in compliance with shop practices, safety regulations, and techniques such as mirror welding. *Operating manual and pneumatic power tools to accomplish grinding and deburring operations for the purpose of cleaning and contouring weldments. *Setting up, maintaining, and monitoring gas purges in piping systems. *Aligning and securing work pieces for welding using welding positioners, fixtures, and alignment jigs.
