Reports to: HVAC Shop Foreman
Basic Functions:
Operates, maintains and repairs direct digital control (DDC) systems. Also operates, maintains, and repairs boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, water heaters, air handling and air conditioning units under the guidance of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
The service technician will be required to communicate with customers and service, integrate, test, maintain, and manage HVAC, lighting and security systems and components. Typical devices consist of DDC controllers, relays, transducers, sensors, actuators, power supplies, safety circuits, etc.
Specific Responsibilities:
Also operates, maintains, and repairs installed HVAC equipment such as centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heating boilers, humidifying steam boilers, heat exchangers, main hot water systems, domestic water storage tanks, water heaters, air handling and air conditioning units, air filters, variable air volume mixing boxes and air distribution systems.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Education:
Journeyman or Master Licensed HVAC technician with a minimum of four (4) year experience with Building Automation Systems/Direct Digital Control Systems.
Satisfactory completion of technical training courses and on- line course work indicating proficiency in building systems control and sensors technology. Maintenance of digital systems and equipment may be substituted for formal training Completion of vendor/ software developer education in the types of the systems installed in India is a plus. The successful candidate will complete at least 12 hours of related continuing technical and or professional education CTE/CPE per year. The Facility Manager will review the proposed curriculum or approval prior to acceptance as having met the CTE/CPE requirement. In addition the successful candidate may be required to travel a board for Post sponsored continuing education.
Prior Work Experience:
A minimum of 5 year experience in operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC equipments including centrifugal chillers, boilers, pumps, air handler units, piping, heat exchangers and associated equipment.
Job Knowledge:
A thorough knowledge of programming operations, and troubleshooting for computerized and microprocessor controls in mandatory. The successful candidate must be capable of rapidly assimilating vendor equipment programming guides and effectively applying this information to systems and equipment installed within the Embassy facilities. The candidate must demonstrate:
A thorough knowledge of automated building system and control
A thorough knowledge of programming set points for a wide variety of computer and microprocessor controlled building equipment.
A thorough knowledge of sensor troubleshooting , maintenance , calibration and replacement
A thorough knowledge of digital and analog signal cabling systems troubleshooting and repair.
A thorough knowledge of controls and sensor for Air conditioning chiller systems
A general knowledge of building air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Skills and Abilities:
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with our without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.
Perform tasking requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking short distances.
Working in dusty environments
Working outside in high temperature and during rainy seasons
Basic mechanical and electrical systems understanding
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
