Major Duties and Responsibilities
Schedules and performs periodic maintenance and repairs on stationary diesel engines, to include prime movers for emergency fore system pumps and electrical power generators under the general supervision of the DOS Facilities Manager.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
In the case of emergency power generators sets, trains two qualified personnel to perform as emergency operation/repair back up personnel in his/her absence.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Completion of secondary school or obtained GED required, completion of vocational or trade school program in electrical and electronics systems producing journeyman level skill required. Generator operations and maintenance required.
A minimum 7 to 10 years of progressively more responsible experience in operation and maintenance of building engineering services and 3 years with a large modern commercial building or Government facilities is required. Valid certification of diesel powered electrical generator technician and three years of experience on the maintenance of diesel power generators of up to 1.25 MEG capacity is required. Experience on PLC, DDC controls, pumps, fans, and filters.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, electrical schematic diagrams, PLC schematics required trade manuals, equipment operation and maintenance manuals, and electrical and electrical/ mechanical utility code books.
Must be able to correctly use tools of the trade, power equipment such as threaders, drills, must be able to work from heights exceeding up to 50 feet in a bucket truck scaffolding or motorized man-lift. Possess basic computer skills, use a calculator to determine cost data and calculate man-hours for work elements, must be able to use electrical testing equipment such as an ohm meters, meg-ohm meters amp meters, and other electrical component testing equipment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance.
