Northrop Grumman is seeking aspiring Mechanical Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located on-site at our Mission Systems sector in San Diego, CA.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Navigation Intelligence and Connectivity Division (NIC).

Roles and Responsibilities

As an intern, you’ll participate in a summer internship program to develop competencies in a variety of mechanical engineering specializations that may include:

• Design, Modeling and Simulation, Testing

• Verification and validation 

• Problem solving 

• Research 

• Drawing and document creation

Basic Qualifications

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

• Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2027
• Be majoring in Mechanical Engineering or closely related STEM field
• Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher

• Experience in developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups
• Experience with emerging technologies
• Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects.
• Experience in working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch. 
• Knowledge of HFSS, NEC or FEKO.
• Experience in CAD and FEA tools: Solidworks, CATIA v5, NX, Flotherm, Ansys, or NASTRAN/PATRAN

Intern Pay Range:

Bachelor’s: $21.50 to $39.00 per hour

Master’s: $30.50 to $48.00 per hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

Primary Level Salary Range: $21.50 - $39.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
