ResponsibilitiesCoats surfaces of aircraft and support equipment components, accessories, engines, and related equipment with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, or other appropriate materials, using approved equipment including brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other devices. Handles hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties. Must be customer oriented, able to deal courteously with the customer, and able to interface with Government Representatives. Maintains the highest ethical personal and professional standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspection and Surface Preparation
- Inspect aircraft/support equipment, components, engines, and accessories for surface integrity or corrosion products in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Maintenance Check Lists (MCLs), and company work and maintenance instructions.
- Remove paint or other protective materials using approved tools, agents, and techniques.
- Remove corrosion products using approved tools, equipment, and techniques.
- Prepare surfaces for painting.
- Protect other surfaces or component parts not being painted by using masks, covers, or other approved techniques.
Coating and Finishing
- Coat surfaces of aircraft components, engines, or aeronautical support equipment with appropriate materials, using approved equipment.
- Paint insignia, letters, or numerals as required.
Coordination and Documentation
- Coordinate with supervision and Quality Control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.
- Document work accomplished in NALCOMIS/OOMA, or on Maintenance Action Forms (MAFs), if required.
- Perform simple computer input and extraction functions as required.
- Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials, and equipment as required.
Safety, Environmental, and Program Compliance
- Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities, and job assignment.
- Maintain knowledge of material safety data sheets and applicable safety precautions.
- Be knowledgeable in handling and disposing of hazardous waste, and comply with the established hazardous waste program and Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
- Adhere to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations, including participation in FOD walk downs when directed.
- Adhere to the Tool Control Program.
- Wear a respirator in accordance with established requirements when performing assigned duties.
- Be familiar with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, manufacturer's manuals, and company instructions, in addition to the MIMs, IPBs, and TDs referenced above.
- Adhere to Company policies/procedures and management instruction.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and Company Proprietary data.
- Assist when directed to ensure safety, security, and preservation of Government-owned and company-owned equipment.
Work Area and Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
- Perform preventative maintenance on assigned shop and support equipment.

- Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) duties
- Hazardous Waste Coordinator, Chemical Waste Custodian, or Accumulation Point Source Coordinator duties

QualificationsExperience
- Within the past six (6) years, three (3) years of experience in corrosion identification, removal, treatment, and preservation on aircraft and aircraft components.
Education
- High School Degree or equivalent.
Required Training and Coursework
- Satisfactory completion of a resident 40-hour course of instruction on corrosion removal, prevention, and treatment.
- Aircraft painters must, in addition, have successfully completed a resident 80-hour course of instruction on naval aircraft painting and touch-up, equivalent to the Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP) paint course (or equivalent).
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent.
Licenses and Clearance
- Valid state operator's license (Valid State Driver's License), with the ability to pass the Government licensing requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
Communication
- Ability to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.
Licensing/Certifications Requirements:
Must obtain the following within six (6) months of the start date, unless otherwise stated:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Trained
- FOD and TCP Awareness Trained
- Security Clearance Awareness Training

Schedule and Travel
- Must be able to work weekends, other shifts, and overtime as required.
- Some travel will be required. May be required to travel via military and/or commercial air/ground in support of recovery missions, training detachments, hurricane evacuations, or other off-site support.
Physical Requirements
The essential physical requirements of the position will be reviewed with the applicant during the interview.
- Work is usually accomplished in an aircraft hangar environment and requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with this activity.
- May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.
- Special vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
- Must be able to have a safe fit around the face for a full respirator.
- Must successfully pass a company physical prior to employment/promotion and annually thereafter.
Working Conditions
Work conditions are diverse and may range from an environment with little or no physical discomfort to one where inclement weather subjects individuals to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.
